Of course I felt bad for him! No matter how awful he is, he didn't deserve that. Sure, he was selfish and all that, but that injury ruined him for life. I really find it ironic, though, that it happened when he was pretty much breaking the law. In a way it was like divine justice.

I really actually do feel bad for him. First, that practically ruined his life dream of becoming a silversmith. Also he gets excluded out of everything.I think that it was pretty much diving justice.He shouldn't be working and while he is working he cripples his hand. Maybe the author was trying to make a point to anyone who reads it not to break the rules.

I feel really bad for him because this burn ruined his life and he wont be able to do what he loves anymore! Which is being a silversmith. Yes he was being rude and demanding, but i guess he had the right because he was the best at silversmithing. I do not think it was fair, even though he broke the rules he still didn't deserve to have his career over with.

Yes, I did feel sorry when Johnny burnt his hand, because it ruined his dream/career as a silversmith or even any other job he wanted to do. Also, after that he couldn’t get a job anywhere else because whenever somebody saw his hand they would just say they wouldn’t hire him. I think it was Devine Justice because he was not supposed to be working, but he did and then Dove handed him a broken tool, which ended up giving Johnny a crippled hand.

I think that it was tragic, though i do feel in way he should have seen it coming/ he in a way deserved it. With his and being burned he is not able to do the work that he was so good at; on the other hand he has been a selfish self-prideful person. I would say that this is what he deserves from Dove and Dusty, beacause he would not treat them real well.

I felt really sorry for Johnny because he was fired and really wasn't his fault that he burned his hand. I don't think that this was Devine Justice because Dove gave Johnny the broken crucible just to be funny and his prank probably ruined Johnny's life. And even worse, Dove cried and hardly apologized for ruining Johnny's life!

I feel really bad for him because the thing is although maybe he deserved to get tricked on because he can be a little bossy and full of himself but now he never deserved a crippled had that makes it impossible to do a lot of the jobs in the town. He had a whole career ahead of him and now it's ruined. It might have been the devine justice considering the fact that while he was breaking the law this happened but I find the out come of the devine justice just a bit harsh.

I definitely felt bad for him. He may have been arrogant, but he didn't deserve to have his hand burned. He'll never be a silversmith now that his hand is burned. It'll also be hard to find any job with that hand! This was not Divine Justice because Johnny didn't do anything awful enough to deserve the burn.

I do feel really bad for Johnny. His future of smith-working (because he was REALLY good) was completely ruined. I think that it is unfair that Dove gave him the bad silver. I think Dove should pay for what he did.

I did feel bad for Johnny when his hand was burned. He had a great career ahead of him despite his selfishness. Now that his hand is crippled he can never be as well as he was before. I think it was Divine Justice because he was not supposed to be working that day that Dove and Dusty decided to pull that prank on him.

I felt horrible about Johnny's hand accident. That was one cruel joke that the boys played on him no matter how selfish and how much pride he had. I would feel bad for him even if he was a criminal. That must have really hurt. I thought it was kind of karma from having to much pride and breaking the sabbath day. The worst part was that the accident ruined his carrier.

I feel bad but think that he kind of brought it on himself. He could have avided the situation if he was nicer to Dove and Dusty. But Dove should try and be kind to him now because it is his fult that he will never be a silver smith and that was overously his dream.

I feel really sorry for him.
Although he was a little full of himself, he was a very talented silver smith and he didn't deserve to have his hand crippled. Even though johnny was treating Dove badly Dove should have played a less harmful joke on him, like short sheeting him! BUT, Dove didn't know that he was going to slip, or that he would cripple himself. So, it was in a way divine justice, and that it was a lesson for both Johnny and Dove, but Johnny got hit a lot harder.

I felt really bad for him! ouch! He basically ruined his life. He lost everything...and the pain too mentally and physically. But I think the author is trying to make a point?! because he was kind of a jerk

I felt VERY sorry for Johnny when his hand got burned. Not only did it totally demolish his one big dream in life (to become a master silversmith), but it also made him a burden to his master's family. Now, no one will hire him for even the most basic jobs because of his crippled hand. I do not believe it was "Divine Justice". Dove and Dusty were tired of his overconfidence and bossyness. They just used the "Divine Justice" as an excuse to not get in trouble. It was shown numerous times early in the book that Johnny's pride was an issue. In reality, he really had something like his burned hand comming for him... However, I do not believe what was comming for him would not be something so big that it would destroy all that Johnny was working for.

I feel bad for Johnny, because he has to watch over Dusty and Dove. Also, he is the only one who can read, so that means he is more educated than everyone and he has to read the bible to the family. When he burned his hand while making the pot for the rich man, I felt bad, because that might him down in the process of making the pot. Because he burned his right hand, it will slow him down even more than if it was his left hand.
I feel really bad for Johnny because his life is ruined after a stupid mistake from dove and dusty. At least he found a new place in writing.

I felt sorry for Johnny as he was a silversmith, and now he can't be one. He doesn't know much else and it will be a lot harder for him in the future. I do not think it was fair that dove messed it up for him, because he just messed up someone's career.
Yes i feel very bad for Johnny because he didnt deserve what Dove and Dusty did to him. And just because he is selfish and self centered doesnt mean they should ruin his life for good and now since he has such a bad hand he wont have a good job. And it is divine justice.

I do feel sorry for Johny. He was the top apprentice in Boston and just because he had pride does not mean that he should get his hand burned and never be a silversmith again, which he could've been a great one. I guess he could've gotton a punishment but not to ruin his life.
I felt sorry for him because all his life he wanted to be a silversmith and now he cant, and that is one of the things he is best at. I know that he was rude to people but everybody makes mistakes so I dont think he deserved that.

I do actually feel bad for Johnny, because after his accident, nobody wants him anymore and he can't find work. Although he was really selfish, self-centered and mean, I feel like he should at least have a job and not get kicked out of every job and live terribly.

I feel bad for the lad because he was a really bright kid and had a great future but then he had his accident and now he has no chance for a great job such as a silversmith. I don't think it was a big deal that he got after Dusty and Dove because they were pretty stupid kids and obviously didn't work hard. They had no right to burn his hand and ruin his life.

I feel very bad for him. He was told in church not to be proud and more humble. Though you can't blame him. He had to work with Dove and Dusty who didn't do anything right. He kept on getting worn down and he finally snapped. He did break the the law though so he got what he deserved. I think this is a really good book. It really show how life was back then in the colonies.

I did feel really bad for him when he burned his hand. He did deserve some kind of punishment, but not something as big, and life-changing as that. He was too proud, but burning his hand ruined his life and his dreams, and no one deserves that.
I felt really bad for him! Even though he was too proud and deserved some kind of lesson, he didn't deserve that! He could no longer do what he loved to do, and his dream was crushed. No one deserves that, no matter how terrible they are.
I sort of felt bad for Johnny. I felt bad for him because he had been burned so bad and now his hand was useless. And because dove was sort of being mean and sneaky when he handed him the cracked crucible. I also sort of didnt feel bad for him because he had been so cocky and so full of himself and had always been bossing everyone around. This is not divine justice because in johnny is not really a bad guy. Also, it is not divine justice because Dove basically killed his familys main source of income.

I do feel sorry for Johnny. No one deserves that because he had such a great talent at what he did. This burn not only crippled him, but it took away his chance to do work. This was Divine Justice because he was working on the Sabbath when no one is supposed to be working.

I think everyone has to feel a little bit sorry for Johnny, his life is ruined, he can no longer find work very easily and his one dream to become a silversmith is impossible. I don't beleive it was divine justice, Dove and Dusty purposefully gave him a cracked crucible. Although this may be true, he was breaking the sabbath and he had always been quite proud. Mr. Lapham had always wanted him to read the bible and be godly but Johnny never listened. I think that Johnny was simply ambitious and over-acheiving which maybe ruined his life in a way, but the true Devine Justice should be aimed for Dove and Dusty who were lazy and jealous!

I do feel bad ofr him, but not as bad as if one of the other boys hurt themselves. He treated the boys so badly, saying they were good for nothing that it is ironic that he can't find a job, and was a cripple. He became what he made fun of, that was divine justice. An dif he would have followed the instructions on cleaning up after himself it would have never happened, so I don't feel bad for him.

I felt very bad for Johnny, but he did sort of deserve it, because his pride was to big. But he lost his opportunity to be a silversmith, was pretty much kicked out of the Lapham house. I think it was divine justice because Johnny was working on the Sabbath, which just happened to be illegal then, which is why Dove got him the bad crucible.

I think johnny desrved some sort of punishment from god, but I don't think he should be crippled for life just for being selfish. I do feel sorry for him. I am angry that dove and Dusty didn't even get in trouble for it.

I felt bad for Johnny because he had a whole career of being a silversmith in front of him but now, because of his crippled hand, he can't do that. I don't believe this is divine justice, I believe this is just Dusty and Dove being jealous and spiteful. If it were divine justice, the furnace would have broken down or something that would have punished him for working during Sabbath but not destroyed his future.
