Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

Greetings, our agenda today was:

  • Get Organized! Students moved over their old econ files from dropbox to their computers.
  • Complete the writing of a third quarter goal. Using our special Social Studies rubric, students are writing a personal goal for class this quarter. This is a part of their grade. Student's are meeting with Mr. M to discuss these goals.
  • Scribblemaps! While writing a goal, students were also working on completing an extensive scribble map of the major physical features of the United States. These are to be turned in to Mr. M by Thursday.

Friday, January 25th

Our main focus today was on regions #4 and #5 on our maps - the Great Plains/Midwest and the Southeastern states. Mr. M did a map check, we reviewed the videos from the night before, and had some practice. Mr. M gave some extra time today for the longer map quiz #4 on these two regions! Have a nice weekend!

Thursday, January 24th

Okay, here is what happened today!

  • Began by grading/reviewing Map Quiz 3 - the Southwestern Region
  • Choosing a 3rd Quarter Goal - Mr. M introduced the goal assignment for the third quarter. Students will be using the middle school history department's special student Rubric to select a specific goal to work on for this quarter. It is a part of our grade.
  • Scribblemaps - using this site, Mr. M introduced scribblemaps as a way to further learn about and practice knowledge already gained from our first regions in this unit. On Tuesday, the students will have a formal activity using this site.

Hello There! Our agenda today was:

  • A return to our map studies! Mr. M checked student's maps for accuracy and detail. 
  • We discussed the videos about the Southwest from the night before - updated our notes.
  • Did some map practice - using Google Earth!
  • Map quiz #3 - The Southwestern Region

Tuesday, January 22nd

For today:

  • Handed back map quizzes 1 and 2. Students had a chance to see their grade so far this quarter.
  • Mr. M threw some poll questions up on Air Parrot. Students had a chance to answer anonymously.  Also, it was a chance to earn some EC on the Geography test.
  • Finally, time for some fun - 3-D maps using Playdough. The students recreated the physical geography of the west using different colors of playdough. Good practice!

Thursday, January 17th!

Hello All!  Our agenda today was:

  • Mr. M did a map check! Wanted to see if students were following directions - are the maps looking accurate.
  • Next, we discussed the notes from the video the night before - The Pacific States
  • Students then had the opportunity to come to the SmartBoard and locate political and physical geography of this region.
  • Finally, we had our first map quiz - The Pacific Region.

Wednesday, January 16th!

Our agenda in history today was as follows:

  • Organized ourselves first. Created a new folder on their dropbox accounts titled Unit 1 Geography. Then we cleaned out the black binders and got ready for the 2nd semester.
  • Family history stories - last night the students were to ask their various family members about a story. They wrote them out on notecards. Then Mr. M shuffled and read them. Students tried guess who the stories belonged to - fun!
  • Mr. M set the students up to begin their geography homework for tonight!
