Cate's U.S. History Page

January 15th, 2008

Today we began our exciting and lengthy journey to study American History. We will actually start by learning some U.S. Geography. Our U.S. Geography tour will take us to five regions - the Pacific states, States of the West, the Midwest, the South and Southeast, and finally, the Northeast. Mr. M handed out the U.S. Political map and U.S. physical map. There was a quick discussion - Political maps show boundaries, borders, cities and Physical maps show physical features like mountains, bodies of water, etc...

Students began a tour of the Pacific states by watching a CD-Rom presentation on Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and California. Mr. M regaled students with stories about Alaska and hooking some Halibut and King Salmon. We will use the CD-Rom presentations for all five regions. Cate, you will not be able to see these but I will make copies of students notes to send you.

Tomorrow will be our first geography quiz on the Political/Physical geography of the Pacific States - info comes from the map work. You will find the assignment on Mr. M's website.
